OUR STORY
Rooted in Communities, Driven by Women
The Humanitarian Umbrella for Relief and Development Organization (HURDO) is an independent, non-governmental, non-profit, and non-political organization established with the purpose of protecting human rights, saving and improving lives, building resilience, and creating lasting solutions for the most vulnerable, poorest, and marginalized families affected by poverty and natural disasters.
HURDO was established in 2014 to address the insistent needs of marginalized communities in the south-central zone of Somalia. Our mission is to empower individuals and communities through holistic development initiatives, focusing on Protection, health provision, education and Food Security and Resilience.
Since our founding in 2014, we have been dedicated to supporting the people of South and Central Somalia through a comprehensive approach to humanitarian assistance and sustainable development. Our focus has always been on addressing immediate needs while also fostering long-term resilience and self-reliance in the communities we serve.

HURDO is a Somali women-led humanitarian and development organization. As a women-led organization, HURDO invests in the leadership, rights and economic agency of women and youth across Somalia. Our efforts focus on amplifying the voices of underrepresented groups, particularly women and youth, to ensure their meaningful participation in decision-making and development processes.
